A Lexington 19 year-old was recently sentenced to 30 years in prison for violent crimes.

Kaleb Thomas Besancon, 19, pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to one count of armed robbery and one count of second-degree violent burglary, with the charges stemming from two separate incidents that took place within Lexington County.

Besancon was sentenced to 20 years for the armed robbery and 10 years for the burglary,, with these sentences set to run consecutively, according to a release from the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. The release added that armed robbery is classified as violent and is a “no parole” offense.

According to the release, on Nov. 13, 2022, Besancon entered a Circle K on Augusta Highway, wearing a mask and holding a firearm.

“While pointing the gun at the cashier, Besancon stole money from the cash register and vape pens,” the release states. “After fleeing the store, Besancon was located and detained by a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy.”

The release states that Besancon had the stolen items in his possession.

Roughly four months later, while out on bond, Besancon and two co-defendants broke into a residence around Lexington, wearing masks and armed with firearms. The release states that Besancon forcefully kicked the door and left the door frame on the living room floor before the three fled in a silver in color Dodge Charger.

According to the release, the incident was captured on the victim’s doorbell camera. The Lexington County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene after the group had already fled.

“While deputies were still on scene, a silver in color Dodge Charger returned to the area. When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the Dodge Charger fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Deputies were later notified of a high-velocity collision involving this vehicle,” the release states. “When deputies responded to the scene of the collision with the assistance of a K9 unit, they were able to apprehend Besancon and his co-defendants hiding in the woods and recovered one firearm.”

According to the release, Besancon’s bond was nixed during an emergency bond revocation, due to a request from Assistant Solicitor Ashley Wellman, who handled the prosecution of Besancon’s case.

The release states that the cases were investigated by the county Sheriff’s Department.
