Riverbank Elementary students win Lexington 2 cooking competition

Posted

On March 28, 13 elementary students from across Lexington County School District 2 competed in the Future Chef Competition. These students were chosen after being school-level recipe winners and were brought to the Lexington 2 Innovation Center to cook their recipes in a commercial kitchen.

This year's theme was favorite home-cooked recipe, meal or item. According to a release, each student was paired with a member of the district food services team, they prepared the recipes, judges tasted and decided a winner.

This year's winner was Katherine Desiderio Garcia, a student from Riverbank Elementary. Her winning dish was a Mexican bionico, a fruit bowl made with a Greek yogurt base. Fruits included papaya and mango. Garcia will now take her skills to the next level and compete in a regional cooking competition.
