Holiday Lights

Wild Lights at the Zoo

Grab the kids and head over to the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) for the annual Wild Lights event. Stroll through the Zoo and discover nearly 60 large-scale handcrafted lanterns inspired by nature. There are also interactive activities, photo ops, and seasonal favorites including nightly snowfall and visits with Santa. Begins at 5 p.m., and admission is $19.99 for children ages 2-12 and $24.99 for adults. Children under 2 are free. Event runs through Jan. 14. Visit riverbanks.org for more information.

Friday — Jan. 5

Acoustic Jam

Looking for a little mellow Friday evening entertainment? Grab your acoustic instrument and head over to Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for their weekly jam session, or simply grab a bite from the snack bar and enjoy the tunes. Bill’s Acoustic Jam night runs from 9 p.m. to midnight and admission is a $10 donation. Visit billsmusicshop.com for more information.

Saturday — Jan. 6

Charles Page (concert)

Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) and Charles Page & Company present “A Night of Jazz Grooves.” Page and his band, joined by guitarist and Chayz favorite Rod McCoy, plays hits and classics by Janet Jackson, George Duke, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Blackstreet, Santana, Bruno Mars, Kem, Chaka Khan and many more. Lobster Dogs 

The Lobster Dogs Food Truck makes a stop at Hazelwood Brewing (711 E. Main St. Ste. 0S2). Enjoy “the best lobster rolls in the Carolinas” and taste some delicious locally brewed beverages. Rumours: The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute (concert)

The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo) hosts a performance by Rumours: The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute. “Dedicated to maintaining their reputation as the most authentic recreation of Fleetwood Mac, the band provides a compelling performance. No detail is spared, and Rumours is bound to give you the Fleetwood Mac experience of your dreams.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $50. Visit harbisontheatre.org for more information. Sunday — Jan. 7

Winter Holistic Market

Flora & Fauna Marketplace (4772 Sunset Blvd.) hosts their Winter Holistic Market. Take a tour through a host of vendors, healers, readers and artisans. The market’s focus is on enriching mind, body and spirit and includes holistic healers, intuitive readers, crystals, jewelry, artisans, holistic wellness practitioners, local businesses, witchy and mystical items, and much more. Jazz Brunch 

If you like a little jazz with your Sunday brunch, Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) has the event for you. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon full of delicious dishes, wine and mimosas and take in the best in live contemporary jazz and soul-jazz tunes. Chayz’ Jazz Brunch runs from noon to 3 p.m., and live jazz starts at 1 p.m. This event has no cover charge but reservations are required. Dressy attire required. Tuesday — Jan. 9

Book Club: Happily Ever After

The Cayce-West Columbia Branch Library (1500 Augusta Rd. in West Columbia) hosts another edition of its weekly Book Club meeting, this one concerning romance novels. The “Happily Ever After” book club meets from 3 to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. Visit lexcolibrary.com for more information.

Family Fun Night

Sound Bath Meditation

Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St.) hosts a different kind of event called “Sound Bath Meditation.”  Join Michael from Good Company Yoga for a 45-minute sound bath meditation inside Steel Hands Brewing’s steel shed, benefiting Rosewood Community Orchard. Payment for the class is based on a sliding scale donation; give what you can. Attendees should bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Pre-registration is required. Thursday — Jan. 11

Family Palooza Movie Night

The Pelion Branch Library (206 Pine St.) hosts a fun Family Palooza Movie Night. Grab the kids and head on over to enjoy a screening of the smash-hit animated film “Frozen” from 5 to 7 p.m. And make sure to enjoy some popcorn and snacks while you watch courtesy of the library. Aiken County Farmer’s Market

Visit the Aiken County Farmer’s Market (115 Williamsburg St.) on Jan. 6 to find the best in local produce, baked goods, meat, honey, and dairy products, along with homemade arts and crafts. The market runs from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is free to attend. Visit visitaikensc.com for more information. 

Rockin’ Resolutions (concert)

The Senate (1022B Senate St. in Columbia) hosts a benefit for the USC Music Industry Studies program called Rockin’ Resolutions on  Jan. 7. Enjoy sets from Angie Aparo (writer of Faith Hill’s smash hit “Cry”) and The Dean & The Boys, as well as an opening set from members of the Music Industry Studies Department. Pups & Pints

The Grand on Main (1621 Main St. in Columbia) hosts Pups & Pints on Jan. 9. Grab your four-legged friend and drop by for some tasty brews, or simply bask in the attention of some very good boys and girls. This event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and is free to attend. Robotics for Teens and Tweens

The Aiken County Public Library (314 Chesterfield St. SW) hosts an event for science-minded kids and teens called Robotics for Teens and Tweens on Jan. 9. There are no supplies or experience required, the kids just need their imaginations and creativity. This program runs from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and is free to attend. It is for children aged 11-18. “Blade Runner” (film)

The Nickelodeon Theatre (1607 Main St. in Columbia) and the Columbia Museum of Art present a special event to mark the closing of the CMA’s exhibition “Lee Alexander McQueen & Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous.” The museum teams up with the Nickelodeon Theatre for a two-part film series exploring creative connections behind some of McQueen’s most iconic looks on the runway. The first film in the series is “Blade Runner,” directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford. Showtime is 6:30 p.m., and admission is $15 for general admission and $12 for CMA/Nick members.
