What to do this Mother’s Day weekend in Lexington County

Posted

In case you’ve forgotten (and we would never suggest that you have), Mother’s Day is this Sunday. On top of buying Mom a card and some flowers, why not consider some of the Mother’s Day-themed activities going on right outside your door this weekend in Lexington County. Here’s a roundup of just some of your options.

Some of this weekend’s Mother’s Day events don’t actually take place on Sunday. On Saturday, May 11, Studio Bloom WECO re-purposes its monthly Blossom & Brunch event by making it the “Mom Edition.” In addition to a delicious brunch spread, you and Mom can celebrate the journey of motherhood with music, interactive activities and prizes.

Also on Saturday, over at Lake Murray, a Mother’s Day celebration kicks off at 1 p.m. This fun-filled cookout isn’t just for you and Mom; it’s for your aunts and sisters, too.

Sunday is the big day, of course, and there are a multitude of places to take Mom for a variety of different events.

You can certainly find Mother’s Day brunches around town, though you might want to call and make a reservation as soon as you can.

Venue 817, an event space on St. Andrews Road, will put on a brunch featuring the creations of their own Chef Rob, and you can find a great traditional Mother’s Day Brunch at Restaurant 17 on Durango Drive.

But if you’re looking for something a little more unique, there are some spots around town that are putting a spin on the old-school brunch concept.

Chayz Lounge on Meeting Street, for example, brings a little jazz into the mix with their Sunday Mother’s Day Brunch. Experience a relaxing afternoon of delicious dishes, wine and mimosas in an elegant, upscale space, accompanied by the finest live contemporary jazz and soul tunes set. Additionally, The Hideout in WECO brings the fun with the “Mother-Loaded Drag Brunch” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

There’s even a Mother’s Day Cruise Brunch, a two-hour trip around Lake Murray aboard “The Spirit Of Lake Murray” complete with a buffet stuffed with vegetable frittata, cheese frittata, bacon, sausage, hashbrown casserole, fresh fruit and a waffle bar.

If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous than brunch, you’re covered as well. Hazelwood Brewing on Main Street gets things started a little later in the day at 3 p.m. for a Mother’s Day celebration featuring local singer and guitarist Chris Reed.

And if Mom feels like letting off some steam, maybe the best place to take her is Craft Axe Throwing, also on Main Street. Moms can throw for free all day on Sunday. Flowers wilt, but the memory of mom hitting a bullseye lasts forever!
