Antifa agitators and Black Lives Matter demonstrators marched through our nation's capital Saturday.
Police held them back from restaurants where they threatened people eating dinner, according to video footage and a few news reports.
“Burn it down,” demonstrators chanted.
“Despite black lives mattering, black people are still dying at the hands of the police paid for by our tax dollars,” one told Epoch Times reporter Jack Phillips.
Video uploaded by independent journalists showed Antifa agitators fighting with police.
Some in all black could be seen holding the red-and-black Antifa flag.
Anti-police protests and riots have been a constant presence in DC after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last May.
About 26,000 National Guard members were brought in for security after the Capitol Hill clash Jan. 6.
Officials have said about 5,000 Guard members would stay in the city until mid-March.
SC Guard soliders returned home a week ago.
Washington, DC police have not yet reported any arrests.
Andy Ngo, an independent journalist who covers Antifa’s actions across the country, said Antifa is more than an ideology.
Antifa is “more than an idea. It’s also a movement,” he said.
It has networks of formal organizations, he said.
The continuing Black Lives Matter protests and Antifa riots suggests a growing divide in the American left.
Seattle, Portland and other cities have seen violent demonstrations since the Jan. 20 inauguration of President Joe Biden.
