How non-profits illegally took $80 million

Sen. Scott seeks SBA loan investigation into taxpayer funds

Posted

US Sen. Tim Scott wants an investigation of Planned Parenthood affiliates' $80 million loan.
The SC Republican suspects they violated the Paycheck Protection Program's eligibility and failed to repay the loans.
As a Senate Small Business Committee member, Scott joined fellow Republican Sen. Rand Paul.
They sent letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Small Business Administration Inspector General Mike Ware and SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman.
The Republicans want them to investigate "unlawful participation of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America in the Paycheck Protection Program."
A year ago, the SBA notified the affiliates that they had illegally applied for and received more than $80 million in federal loans that should be returned.
The senators wrote. “Not only have most of the PPFA affiliates not returned their PPP funds as requested but 2 have applied for and been approved for a 2nd draw loan, with full knowledge of their ineligibility."
The SBA said that even more PPFA affiliates have been approved for PPP loans in the last month.
During the partisan budget reconciliation debate this year, Democrats planned to waive SBA’s non-profit affiliation rules, Scott said.
That would have made PPFA eligible but Republican members forced Democrats to remove the provision.
