What happened to the Chronicle's paper box?

Posted

You may have noticed we removed our newspaper box from in front of the Lexington County Courthouse.

Yesterday morning, the Chronicle received word that Judge Griffith had ordered the box be removed to prevent potential jurors from seeing our reporting on the Timothy Jones murder trial.

The defense raised objection to the box being within sight of the potential jurors entering the courthouse.

We removed the box within an hour of receiveing word.

During "qualifications" of potential jurors, Circuit Court Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr. asks them if pre-trial publicity has caused them to form an opinion of guilt or innocence in the case.

"There's been alot of publicity out there from all sort of places," the judge asked one potential juror Thursday. "They're just doing their jobs."

Defense also requested a change in trial venue. Judge Griffith denied the request.

You can still find copies of the Chronicle all around Lexington County. Give us a call at 803-359-7633, and we'll help you find a copy.
