The home of the Lexington County Blowfish will showcase the Palmetto State's 3 charter schools this Wednesday.
Gray Collegiate Academy will play host to Oceanside Collegiate Academy and Legion Collegiate Academy as part of a non-region tripleheader at Lexington County Baseball Stadium:
Gray Collegiate vs. Legion Collegiate noon
Oceanside Collegiate vs. Legion Collegiate 3 pm
Gray Collegiate vs. Oceanside Collegiate 6 pm
War Eagles' head coach Charles Assey said a doubleheader with Oceanside Collegiate was originally planned for last season at the stadium. However, covid-19 cancelled those games as well as a rematch with Cardinal Newman against Assey's son, Charles Jr.
With the arrival of Legion Collegiate and after receiving permission from the Lexington Recreation and Aging Commission, Assey was able to get the 3 Pinnacle Charter Academy schools to agree to meet in Lexington.
He sees this as "great exposure" for 3 programs who are ranked in the Top 5 of their respective classifications.
Gray Collegiate (11-4, 3-0) is 2nd in the SC Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A poll with Legion Collegiate ranked 4th. Oceanside Collegiate is 3rd in Class 3A behind top-ranked Belton-Honea Path and 2nd ranked Brookland-Cayce.
Tickets are $5 (cash only) at the gate and concessions will be made available by the Blowfish. Face masks are a requirement for entry and social distancing will be encouraged inside the ballpark.
