1 dead after accident on l-26

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the person who died in a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Nov. 3 near the 111 mile marker on Interstate-26.

68-year-old West Columbia resident Clayton Wesley Barrs was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. Barrs was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision, the press release read.

The driver stopped and remained on the scene. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident.
