There are only a few games left in the 2025 summer American Legion baseball season.
All three of Lexington County’s teams have had the chance to settle in and will now focus on ending the year strong.
Lexington Post 7, West Columbia Post 79 and Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 are the local teams and are made up of some of the county’s brightest stars. These players had success during the high school season and are continuing to do so in legion ball.
With just two weeks worth of games left, it will be a scramble for each team to earn wins and improve their record and spot in the standings.
Richland Post 215 is currently leading the league with a 6-1 record. Lexington and West Columbia are right behind and can overtake Richland with a little bit of help.
Lexington wrapped up all of its league series. The team swept Chapin/Newberry in three games last week to improve to 8-3.
Post 7 beat West Columbia in their season series the week before as well. The second meeting between the two was cut short after four innings due to weather and was eventually ruled a Lexington win.
Lexington lost the series to Richland two games to one back in early June. Those games could prove to be the deciding factor in who takes first place, should Richland win out.
Post 7 ends their season with a non-league series against Greenwood this week and a game against Camden next week.
West Columbia is just under the two leaders, sitting at 6-3 in league games.
While Post 79 already lost its season series against Lexington, the team still has its series against Richland on the schedule.
West Columbia and Richland are playing in a three-game series this week. These are the last three games on the schedule for Post 79.
Chapin/Newberry is still looking for its first league win and is 4-8 overall this season.
Post 193/24 still has two league series on the schedule, including this week against a struggling Winnsboro team and next week against Richland.
The 2025 American Legion baseball postseason begins on July 17. The top three teams from each league will qualify for the playoffs. The teams are then matched up to determine the eight squads that will move on to the double-elimination bracket.
The championship game will be played at Founders Park, home of the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team, on July 31.
