2024 Cayce Roundball Classic teams and tournament dates announced

The 2024 edition of the Cayce Roundball Classic will take place Dec. 26-29 and feature 16 teams, including four from Lexington County.

It will be the fifth edition of the tournament at Brookland-Cayce High School and features some of the state’s most talented teams. Some of the most notable competing this year include, defending 5A champions Lexington, 5A runners-up Byrnes and Indian Land.

Aside from Lexington, Brookland-Cayce, Chapin and River Bluff will represent Lexington County.

“The Cayce Roundball Classic has grown to one of the best tournaments in the Southeast,” said Robert Wells, basketball coach at Brookland-Cayce High School and the tournament’s director.  “The competition, hospitality, and high level of social media make this event something special.”

The 16 teams will be split into two separate brackets, the American and National. In the end, two separate champions will be crowned.

Byrnes, Chapin, South Pointe, Lower Richland, Lexington, C.A. Johnson, Hammond and Brookland-Cayce will play in the American bracket. Fox Creek, Indian Land, Fort Dorchester, Lakewood and River Bluff will play in the National bracket along with three Georgia teams, Hiram, Lakeside and Cross Creek.

“College coaches and basketball fans look forward to visiting Cayce, South Carolina, every year for four days of great basketball,” Wells said.

Last season, Gray Collegiate won the American Bracket over Charlotte’s Providence Day. Lancaster beat Hiram in the National bracket to win its second straight Roundball championship. Both winners from last year’s tournament are absent from this year’s field, meaning a new winner will be crowned.

Cross Creek and Fort Dorchester will tip off the tournament on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m. in the first round of the National Bracket. Action in the American bracket will begin the next day with four games, starting with Lexington vs. C.A. Johnson at 4 p.m.

Second-round games in the National Bracket will be Dec. 27, and the final round will be Dec. 28 with the championship game being played at 7 p.m. In the American, teams will play their second-round games on Dec. 28 and the final round on Dec. 29. The American championship game is set for 4:30 p.m.

Tickets per day are $12 cash at the door or $15 in advance for online purchases at Go Fan. Attendees will be required to go through a security screening before entering the arena, and only clear bags will be allowed in the arena during the tournament.
