3 Lexington County soccer teams advance to state championships

Posted

It’s championship week for high school soccer teams.

This week, months of hard work will pay off for 11 teams in South Carolina as the SCHSL championships are played.

Three Lexington County teams are shooting for glory, hoping to win a championship after advancing past last week's semis.

Gray Collegiate’s boys and both Chapin teams are the last Lexington County teams standing. All three teams are used to making deep postseason runs, but are hoping this is the year they finally break through.

Chapin’s girls are in their third straight title game. The Eagles lost each of the previous two games and are looking for revenge this year.

The team will play Eastside in the championship for a second year in a row. Chapin fell in overtime last season, 3-2. The previous season, the team also lost by a single goal, 2-1, against Clover.

The Eagle boys will also play Eastside for the championship, 25 minutes after the girls game ends.

Chapin’s boys team is back in the title game for the first time since three-peating from 2016-18.

Gray Collegiate is back in the championship for the first time since moving up from 2A.

The War Eagles made their first 4A state title appearance after defeating Bishop England 4-1 in a shootout.

Gray will look to win its first-ever boys soccer state championship on Friday against Southside. For head coach Kevin Heise, it will be his seventh title game appearance across his time at both Brookland-Cayce and Gray.
