Blowfish baseball is back as the team kicked off its 2026 season with two games in front of a packed Lexington County crowd.
The team is hoping for another exciting year and includes a roster full of local ties. The Blowfish will have numerous themed outings this season and will have the occasional fireworks show after games.
Lexington County remains in the Coastal Plains League and will play a handful of non-league home games as well.
The Blowfish kicked off their 2026 season on the road, traveling to Florence for a game against the Flamingos. The team won its season opener 6-2 and then returned to Lexington to begin its home schedule.
In the home opener, the Blowfish took down the Macon Bacon 5-4. Lexington County trailed for most of the game, but scored two runs in the eighth inning to take the lead.
Jake Pereira went 3-4 from the plate and crossed home twice for two runs. Cooper Noble finished with two RBIs.
Six different pitchers took the mound. Kyle Stock got the start, pitching four innings. Davis Jabaley got the save after throwing three strikeouts in the final inning.
After the field cleared, fans got to sit back and enjoy a festive fireworks show to celebrate a 2-0 start to the season.
The team split into two on Saturday. Half hit the road for a league game against the Bacon. The other half stayed home and donned their Glowfish jerseys for the first time this season during a game against Kingsmen.
Lexington County dropped both games to end their unbeaten start. The team in Macon lost 11-1, while the team back home lost as well.
Before the home game, the team hosted its annual USO Richland vs. Lexington County sheriff's softball game.
The friendly scrimmage between the two departments took place two hours before the game, and for the third year in a row, the Richland team defeated the Lexington team.
Proceeds from the game go to USO-South Carolina. Their mission is to help and support active duty service members in the state.
While the Glowfish dropped the game right after, the night ended with another blast of fireworks and smiles all around.
The Blowfish will be back on the field this week with four more home games, including three against CPL teams.
Lexington will play High Point, Forest City and Macon at home as the Blowfish. The Glowfish will take the field Friday against Catawba Valley.
The Blowfish also have road games against Forest City and Boone this week.
This week’s special nights include the dog-friendly Woof Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Farmer Friday and Cowboys Saturday. Cowboy night will also be the debut of this season’s special Cowfish jersey.
