A national nonprofit organization has committed funding to purchase a bulletproof vest for a Cayce Police Department K-9, the agency announced on Monday.
Brady’s K9 Fund will provide a ballistic vest for Koa, a 3-year-old Dutch shepherd who’s been partnered with a CPD handler since April 2024.
“The work Koa performs alongside his partner can put him directly in harm’s way, and this ballistic vest will give him an important added layer of protection while he works to keep our officers and community safe,” the department said on its Facebook page.
Described as a “pretty unforgettable member of the Cayce Police Department,” Koa is a full-service police K-9 trained in apprehension, narcotics detection and tracking.
“Koa is extremely smart, attentive, fearless, protective and always ready to work,” the Facebook post says.
Based in Bradenton, Florida, Brady’s K9 Fund has raised more than $1.6 million and purchased ballistic vests for 1,806 police dogs in all 50 states since 2018. The organization is a tax-exempt nonprofit. For more information, visit https://bradysk9fund.com/.
