City of Cayce officials are taking additional steps to keep residents informed about the Avenues Drainage Project, which aims to mitigate issues of flooding along Knox Abbott Drive and in the avenues.
The project was made possible when the city received a $10 million grant from the South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program (SCIIP). In 2023, the SCIIP awarded $1.369 billion in funding for over 200 communities.
“We’ve heard the concerns about stormwater runoff from our Cayce citizens, and we are committed to serve as part of the solution through grant funding and partnerships,” according to Ashley Hunter, Cayce's public information officer.
According to a media release, the project team has launched engagement efforts to ensure residents remain in the loop on the progress of the project.
This includes a project website, https://www.caycedrainage.com/, that includes alerts, public information and project updates. It also includes informational mailers and door hangers to homes near the construction zone, QR code access to updates, ongoing email and text alerts that include safety advisories and road closure alerts and a dedicated project line (1-800-939-9321). Residents can call this line to make comments or express their concerns.
“Communication is a key element during a project of this scale,” Cayce City Manager Jim Crosland said in a statement. “We know drainage work brings short-term disruption, but our goal is to keep the community fully informed and minimize inconvenience as much as possible.”
The project website says the project will take over a year to complete, and residents are urged to avoid construction areas.
