High school lacrosse teams in Lexington County wrap up their regular seasons this week. While the region champions have been decided, he teams that are in action will still have a chance to fine-tune their game before the playoffs.

The postseason will begin next Monday with a few local teams guaranteed at least one home game.

Chapin’s boys and Lexington’s girls are assured a high seed in their playoff bracket after officially clinching the region title last week. Both teams went undefeated against fellow conference foes and did it in dominant fashion.

For Lexington, it is the girls' first region title in team history. The Wildcats were the runners up in each of the past two seasons and finally reached the top this year thanks to a balanced offense and stellar defense and goalkeeping.

Three different players average multiple goals per game, and an additional five average at least one.

Lily Sundell is the team’s leading scorer, averaging five goals and three assists per game. Izzy Saville scores about four goals per game and Anna Barger averages two.

Emerson Clamp is having a strong season in net, saving almost 60% of her shots faced and allowing just 58 goals.

Lexington clinched the championship after beating River Bluff 16-5. The team beat defending state and region champions Chapin 17-6 earlier this season. Chapin finished one spot below Lexington with the loss to the Wildcats being their only region blemish.

The Wildcats began this week 11-1 overall, with its lone loss coming against Oceanside. The team has two games scheduled this week to end the regular season. If Lexington wins both, it will tie the program record for most wins in a season.

River Bluff and Dutch Fork secured the third and fourth place spots in the region. Both teams will be on a bye this week to rest before the playoffs.

Chapin’s boys also went unbeaten in region play to secure the title. It was an impressive turnaround for the Eagles, who went 3-6 in non-region games.

After starting the season 2-5, the Eagles won seven of their next eight games. The lone loss came in a one-point game against A.C. Flora.

River Bluff and Lexington went head-to-head for second place in a game that came down to the wire last week.

The Gators got out to a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and went into the half up 7-3. Lexington started its comeback in the third quarter and evened the score at 10 by the end of regulation.

Kyle Jenkins scored the game-winning goal for River Bluff after receiving a pass from Cam Morre at the X spot. Jenkins finished the game with a three-goal hat trick and added three assists to account for six of his team’s 11 goals.

Tyler Cast scored five goals to lead the Gators.

River Bluff’s win bumped the Gators over the Wildcats in the region standings. That will have an effect of both teams’ final playoff seeding as they will both play in the same 5A bracket.

Lacrosse playoffs will begin next Monday on April 21.
