Chapin, Lexington lacrosse teams take control as season continues

Posted

Another week of high school lacrosse is complete and a few teams are establishing themselves as contenders.

Lexington and Chapin have a hold on both the boys and girls standings after perfect starts in district games. The Eagle and Wildcat boys are both (3-0) in district play, and the girls teams are a combined (5-0).

This week will be a big one for both programs as the boys and girls will play their head-to-heads. The winners will leap into first place in the district and hold the tie-breaker over the other.

Lexington’s boys will host Chapin on Thursday. The Wildcats are (4-1) at home this season and coming off a pair of blowout wins over Aiken and Spring Valley. Lexington outscored its opponents 33-1 last week to improve to (5-3) overall this season.

Chapin won its only game last week, taking down River Bluff 21-14 to hand the Gators their first loss this season. River Bluff started the season (7-0).

The Gators can get back in the win column this week with games against Blythewood and Aiken. River Bluff is still in the region title race and will play Lexington in a few weeks.

Lexington and Chapin’s girls will also play on Thursday, but their game will be at Chapin.

The Wildcats began this week with a (4-0) region record, picking up wins over Irmo, River Bluff, Dutch Fork and White Knoll. Lexington beat Irmo 23-0 last week and picked up a non-region win over Greenbrier, 19-10.

Chapin has played just one district game, beating River Bluff 16-5. The Eagles are (5-2) overall.

River Bluff is looking to keep up with Lexington and Chapin, but sits at (2-2) in district play. Dutch Fork, White Knoll and Irmo are trying to keep their heads above the water and get on the positive side of 0.500.
