Dutch Fork, Chapin stars shine on the field to win Athlete of the Week

Posted

Spring break is here, which means it’s time for teams to get some rest before jumping into the final stretch of games.

This time off will give the area’s star athletes the chance to rest and recover before making a push towards the playoffs. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to have your best players ready and available.

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners will look to carry their momentum beyond the break after heading into it following some of their best performances of the season.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Sean Egan

Dutch Fork junior Sean Egan helped his team secure a blowout win over Hillcrest last week.

The Silver Foxes defeated Hillcrest 22-3, and Egan helped produce over half of the team’s goals. He finished the game with six goals and seven assists for 13 total points.

Egan has been a bright spot for a Dutch Fork team that has struggled at times this season. He leads the team in goals and assists, with 75 total points on the season.

The win over Hillcrest was the eighth game this season in which Egan scored at least four goals. He set a new season-high in assists and recorded his first 10-plus point performance this season.

Laken Lane

Chapin’s Laken Lane had her most productive game of the season in the Eagles’ 10-0 win over White Knoll.

Lane scored a game-high three goals in the win. It was her highest-scoring game as a member of the varsity team and first hat trick.

She is not usually known for her goal scoring, entering the contest with just one goal this season. In two previous seasons of varsity ball, she scored a combined eight goals.

Lane’s performance helped lead Chapin to a much-needed win. The Eagles are looking to compete for a region title and are currently two games back from the league leader.

If she can string together more performances like this one, Chapin will have an additional threat that will keep opposing teams on their toes.
