David Stuckey, 77, of Lexington County, has been charged with two counts of impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Arrested on July 24 and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate, according to a release from SLED.
Arrest warrants state that on July 9, Stuckey called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and said he was an undercover special agent with SLED investigating a person he followed from S.C. to Florida. He said he was investigating the person for stealing boats and other things.
The Florida organization he called requested his credentials, according to arrest warrants, and Stuckey emailed them a photograph of a SLED badge and said he would give them his “entire investigation results upon request.”
Warrants state he was never employed with SLED, but that he was a law enforcement officer with the Columbia Police Department from 1970-73.
A partially redacted arrest warrant states that Stuckey called the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and disclosed something the warrants redact. Additionally, warrants state that he told the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office he was investigating an individual in Anderson County for stealing his state-issued firearms from his undercover police car.
After that phone call, warrants say Stuckey texted someone whose name is redacted, saying he was “David Stuckey with SLED.”
The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
