Grooming services available to public through Lexington-Richland 5’s veterinary science program

Posted

The Center for Advanced Technical Studies is offering pet grooming services to the public this spring through its Veterinary Science program in Lexington-Richland School District Five.

Veterinary science instructor Jessica Hidalgo said the annual grooming initiative serves as a fundraiser while providing students in the small animal care class with hands-on, real-world learning opportunities.

“Not only does it create authentic learning experiences for students, but it also engages the community year after year,” Hidalgo said in a statement. “Students learn to recognize various dog breeds and breed mixes, practice critical thinking, and solve real-world problems related to animal hygiene and care. The grooming techniques that students practice prepare them for future pet ownership and careers in animal and veterinary care. We are so grateful for the continued support of School District Five and our community.”

Through the program, students receive practical training in professional grooming techniques, including safe animal handling, bathing, styling and basic pet care.

Three grooming packages are available. The basic package costs $20 and includes a bath, dry and final brushing. The standard package costs $30 and includes ear cleaning, nail trimming, a bath, dry and final brushing. The deluxe package costs $40 and includes ear cleaning, nail trimming, a bath, dry, shave and styling.

Grooming dates for 2026 are March 19, March 27, April 2, April 23 and May 1.

Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited opportunities for large dogs. To schedule an appointment, email groomingatthecenter@gmail.com.
