Irmo-area market and eatery to close, begin lunch service at neighboring bar

Posted

A market in the Irmo area that had been serving the community since 2016 has announced its closure.

Fusco’s Market, which had been serving lunch and dinner menus that emphasize Italian and other dishes while also offering boutique grocery shopping and catering from its spot at 2900 Dreher Shoals Rd., recently revealed that May 22 would be its last day in business.

The market didn’t immediately respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce the closing of Fusco’s Market,” Fusco’s posted to Facebook. “You, our loyal customers, have supported us for six years and we consider you family.”

But fans of the market’s dining options won’t be left entirely wanting.

According to the post, the Fusco’s Market staff will begin serving lunch at the neighboring Tavern on 6 starting June 5 (Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.). The market’s catering services will also continue, again, through Tavern on 6.

The market’s owner, Michael Fusco, is among the partners who opened Tavern on 6 at an adjacent spot in the small shopping center near Lake Murray last year.

Fusco’s lunch menu has included an eclectic variety of salads and sandwiches (with the on-bread options spanning from a Cuban to a Reuben to a Waldorf to an Italian sweet sausage hoagie and beyond). The market also served brunch and a weekly Italian Night dinner on Wednesdays.

The Facebook post notes that Fusco’s spot is now available for lease.

“Thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you at Tavern on 6!” the post closes.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
