The Irmo Okra Strut was held on Sept. 26-27. Sponsored by Lexington Health (formerly called Lexington Medical Center), this event celebrated its 50th year. “The Golden Strut: Fifty Years of Struttin’” was held at Moore Park in Irmo. The threat of rain lingered, but the parade and festival were held on schedule. After the parade, attendees made their way to the park to enjoy the rest of the day. Volunteers cooked fried okra throughout the day, and the sales were good. In addition to delicious fried okra, the festival offered a variety of vendors, live music, food, kiddie rides and family fun. Special 50th anniversary tees were available for purchase, and many enjoyed getting their picture made with the giant Okra Man.
