On Thursday, April 17, a bus carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School caused an accident after a tire blew out.
The press release said the students were on Interstate 77 traveling back home from a field trip outside of Charlotte. The bus was carrying 35 students and three adults.
The other two buses that were carrying additional students and adults were not involved in the accident.
EMS, emergency responders, law enforcement agencies and district/personnel arrived on the scene. According to the press release, 35 students and four adults were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Those that were medically cleared by medics were taken to a reunification site to be picked up.
On Friday morning, Lexington County School District Two released a statement: "Following news released by the Chester County Coroner’s Office, Lexington Two can confirm that a student from Pine Ridge Middle School passed away following Thursday’s bus incident."
No additional information will be provided on the student out of respect and privacy to all those affected.
