Lexington 4 breaks ground on Frances Mack Intermediate School renovations

Posted

Lexington County School District Four held a groundbreaking ceremony at Frances Mack Intermediate School for renovations and additions aimed at helping meet the school’s current needs.

Currently, Moseley Designs and Thompson Turner Construction are in the pre-construction and design phase.

Several years ago, Newlin Mack donated 20 acres of land for a public school named after his second wife, Frances F. Mack Primary School. The name was then changed to Frances Mack Intermediate School.

Around two years ago, the district partnered with the South Carolina Department of Education to conduct a facilities study and began exploring grant funding to improve school conditions in the area.

The study identified Frances Mack Intermediate School as a priority for improvements, including need for additional classroom space, enhanced safety and an age appropriate physical education space.

At an October 2024 board meeting, the study showed that Frances Mack could potentially receive up to six more classrooms, allowing more classes and students, a district administrator said.

“Breaking ground today we are reminded that we can continue to empower our students as the lead, learn, serve and excel,” school board member Cindy Dibble said.

Superintendent Justin Nutter said the renovations and additions will benefit students, noting that the fifth and sixth grade students are currently in classrooms designed for kindergarten through second grade.

“It’s a great day, not just for the present, but also the future,” Nutter said.
