Lexington advances to S.C. Diamond Invitational final

With a chance to improve the odds for an at-large Class 5A playoff berth, the Lexington baseball team will play for the S.C. Diamond Invitational Championship.
The Wildcats clinched a berth by going 1-0-1 Thursday at Blythewood High School. With Dutch Fork's 7-2 loss to host team Blythewood, Lexington will face defending Class 5A champion Dorman in the 4 pm final on Saturday.  
Lexington defeated Spartanburg 10-2 in the first game as Landon McMahan drove in 2 runs on 2 doubles and David Cromer went 3-3. 
In the 2nd game, Lexington played Region 5-5A champion and rival Chapin to a 3-3 tie. Starters Matthew Becker of Chapin and Will Wicker of Lexington allowed just 5 hits in the deadlocked contest.
Braison Bourne of Lexington led both teams with 2 hits. 
Chapin followed with a 6-4 win over T.L. Hanna. Trailing 4-3, the Eagles rallied for 3 runs in the Top 6th and time expired in the Bottom 6th. 
Pitcher Chris Veach had 2 hits and 2 RBI and struck out 5 in 5 2/3 innings of work. Despite the victory, Lexington advanced to the 4 p.m. final off the tiebreaker. 
River Bluff 4, Brockport (NY) 3 
William Chastain belted a walkoff RBI single to help the Gators complete a 4-0 run at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach. 
Clemson University committ Ricky Williams went 2-3 and William Lott picked up the victory to improve to 2-0. It was the 2nd straight win over Brockport by the Gators (17-5).
