The 2026 high school track and field season is over in Lexington County after a slew of local athletes competed in the 2026 SCHSL state championships.

In total, 44 athletes finished in the top three to medal, including 12 who won a gold.

While no team won a state championship, a few did finish near the top of the final team standings. Lexington’s boys and White Knoll’s girls were the highest-placing teams, finishing fourth in their respective contests.

Josh Voegele brought home two gold medals for Lexington, winning the boys 800-meter race and being a part of the first-place winning 4x800-meter relay team.

Voegele just edged out Wando’s Ari Laurient for gold in the 800-meter, winning in under 0.2 seconds. Teammate Wesley Heimbach finished third, two seconds behind Voegele.

Heimbach and Voegele joined Michael Walker and Maddox Florio on the 4x800 relay team.

Lexington’s girls also had a solid showing, finishing sixth overall.

Ciara Williams was a double medalist, finishing first in the long jump and second in the 200-meter dash.

White Knoll’s girls team medaled in four events.

Cheyenne Love won the most medals of any athlete from Lexington County.

She earned golds in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Love added a bronze from being part of the Timberwolves 4x400 relay team.

In 2A, Batesburg-Leesville’s Keira Frye also finished with two gold medals. She defended both the titles she won last year, winning the discus and shot put.

Pelion’s Johnathan Davis finished first in the 2A boys 100-meter dash. Madison Kyzer won gold in the javelin throw for the Panther girls.

Chapin also had a boy and a girl add a gold for their teams. Alex Rose won the 5A Division II boys 3200-meter run. McKenzie Lindler won the girls pole vault.

In 4A, Caleb Raysor won the area’s only gold, winning the 110-meter hurdle run.
