The next generation of Lexington County collegiate athletes made their decisions official last week by participating in the early fall signing period and signing their national letters of intent.
41 athletes from five different Lexington County schools participated as their schools held a special celebration full of family, friends and coaches.
Lexington High School had the most signees with 22 athletes participating. Five players from the championship-winning baseball team signed. Basketball star Kaleb Evans made his commitment to Winthrop official a few months after helping the Wildcats win their first basketball championship in over 20 years. Four athletes from the state runner-up softball team signed. And the girls lacrosse team tied baseball for the most athletes to sign with five.
Nine athletes from River Bluff signed, six from Chapin, three from Northside Christian and one from Airport.
17 of the athletes are heading to a division one school. Lexington’s Brandon Cromer is staying close to home as he is committed to play baseball at the University of South Carolina. Others, such as Macie Rogers, are staying in state but going a bit further to schools like the College of Charleston. Then there are a few going out of state, including Lexington’s Alyssa Frazier, who will play soccer at Memphis, and Chapin’s Mia Andrade, who will play golf at Western Carolina.
