The stadium club at Lexington County Baseball Stadium was packed with green on Wednesday as the Lexington County Blowfish held its nd media luncheon of the preseason.
Co-owners Bill and Vicki Shanahan highlighted the upcoming Shamrock Parade, which takes place 2 pm on March 14th in downtown Lexington. It's being presented in part by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, O’Hara’s Public House, the Town of Lexington and your Lexington County Blowfish
“What a wonderful way to celebrate Patrick and his missionary work using the 3-leaf clover shamrock, signifying the Trinity.” Shanahan said. “It’s our goal to provide a family-friendly, fun environment where all of Lexington County can celebrate the fifth annual Lexington County Shamrock Parade.”
Jonathon Rush was officially introduced as the grand marshal of the 2020 parade. Rush currently hosts a morning drive show on local station 97.5 WCOS.
“Jonathon, and his voice, are synonymous with radio in the Midlands,” Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan stated. “The Blowfish are looking forward to honoring Jonathon and his 30 plus years serving the Midlands and the radio listeners of Lexington County for his on-air talent, fun promotions and community goodwill.”
Shanahan and parade committee members also announced the first “Goodwill Ambassador” in Shamrock parade history. Ken Peterson, the illustrious Potentate of the Jamil Shriners. The Shriners Jamil Shrine Temple is a non-profit organization supporting 22 Hospitals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one of a kind pediatric health care system dedicated to improving lives of children through innovative research, education and specialized treatment of orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. “Partnering with the Jamil Shriners is a wonderful opportunity,” Blowfish Assistant General Manager Justin Hall said. “The work they do to provide an avenue for children to get medical treatment without financial hindrance is the true meaning of charity. And we are looking forward to seeing all of the Shriners in the Shamrock Parade.”
Shanahan and staff also presented Joe Pinner with a sash celebrating his continued time as Shamrock Parade emcee.
In a special tribute, Mr. Knozit will lead off the parade in a convertible so families from all over will get the chance to show their appreciation to this local legend.
“Mr. Knozit has always been a big Blowfish supporter,” Shanahan noted. “Joe is a dear friend of ours and we appreciate his enthusiasm for life as well as his enthusiasm for Lexington's Shamrock Parade!”
Once arriving at the official grandstand in front of O'Hara's Public House, Joe will take over the microphone duties announcing all the exciting parade entries.
Midway Elementary student Anna Farley returns in 2020 as Junior Miss Ireland. The 10-year old is enrolled in the school's French immersion program. She enjoys ballet, piano, baking  and spending time with her friends. Farley's great great grandfather, Butch Spires, served on Lexington County Council for 18 years starting in 1976.
Amidst all the green at the Shamrock luncheon, the Blowfish also announced two new player signings for the 2020 season. Clemson freshman Dylan Brewer, who hit a 2-run home run against South Carolina on Friday night, as well as Pittsburgh Panthers pitcher CJ McKennitt will be joining the Blowfish this summer.
