Lexington County educators earn bronze certification in Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program

Posted

Thirty-three educators across the state of South Carolina have been recognized by South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis; they have earned certification through the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program.

Launched in January 2020, the Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program aims to increase the number of K-12 educators incorporating personal finance education into their classrooms. Since 2020, more than 177 teachers have participated.

The program offers financial incentives to educators who specialize in personal finance and are committed to leading professional development sessions for their peers.

The program is sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan in partnership with SC Economics. Participants receive training and access to a curriculum focused on financial literacy education, which they then use in their own classrooms.

To become a certified Master Teacher, applicants must complete required professional development courses, create and conduct training sessions for fellow educators and pass the W!SE Personal Finance Certification Test for Educators.

Here is the sixth cohort of Lexington County educators participating in the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program:

  • Andrea McKnight, H.E. Corley Elementary, Lexington-Richland Five

  • Anya Bryant, Riverbank Elementary, Lexington County School District Two

  • April Gaura, Oak Pointe Elementary, Lexington-Richland County School District Five

  • Miriam Hardy-Koverman, Piney Woods Elementary, Lexington-Richland County School District Five

  • Oleva Irvin, H.E. Corley Elementary, Lexington-Richland County School District Five

  • Otisha Boyd-Robinson, Dutch Fork High, Lexington-Richland County School District Five
