Lexington County football teams return to the field for friendly scrimmages ahead of 2026 season

Posted

Football teams around Lexington County took the field last week to compete against different teams for the first time this season.

Teams came together for drills and scrimmages to test their players against outside competition and get a feel for how prepared they are for the upcoming season.

Some local schools, including River Bluff, hosted the festivities.

The Gators welcomed Cretwood and Bishop England to the Swamp. The three teams took turns rotating through drills before a short period of live play.

River Bluff’s offense and defense got to get reps in game-like situations. They also got to experiment with formations, play selection and personnel.

Teams will have another week of scrimmages this week before the regular season officially begins with week zero.

River Bluff played Byrnes on Monday. The Gators will also participate in the Lexington County Sports-A-Rama.

The Sports-A-Rama is set to take place this Friday at Lexington High School. River Bluff, Gilbert, Brookland-Cayce, Pelion, White Knoll, Lexington and Airport are the local teams participating.

River Bluff and North Augusta will get things started at 6 p.m. Lexington and Airport will end the night with their game beginning at 9:15 p.m.
