The Lexington County Museum held its annual Christmas Open House on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event was well attended.
Museum staff and volunteers were stationed throughout the grounds to give demonstrations and talk about the history of the homes. Attendees could see how bricks were made during the 1830s to build the homes that are on the grounds. Volunteers had tables set up with crafts children could make to take home with them.
The main building on the grounds had hot apple cider and gingerbread cookies and bread to snack on. Many people walked through the grounds at the museum and enjoyed their visit. Constance Fleming played Christmas carols in the Fox building and outside, a staff member told the history of the house and gave out prizes for the ones who could answer Christmas trivia questions.
Decorations used were made with materials like they used back in the 1800s.
The Lexington County Museum is made up of 36 historic houses and outbuildings. It showcases the Colonial and Antebellum period of Lexington County history, with a particular focus on the Swiss and German heritage of Lexington. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
