Lexington County teams and athletes featured in latest wrestling coaches’ rankings

Posted

Another round of rankings was dropped last week by South Carolina’s high school wrestling coaches.

There was a lot of movement in both the team and athlete polls, with some rising, some falling and some joining for the first time this season.

In all, 12 teams and 33 wrestlers earned a spot in the rankings. These numbers are slightly down from December's rankings, when 12 teams and 35 athletes were ranked.

River Bluff’s girls continue to be the team to watch in Lexington County. The Gators are the highest-ranked team in the area, coming in at No. 3 in the girls poll.

The Gator girls also have six ranked athletes, which is the most in the county.

Four River Bluff girls are in the top five for their weight class. Reigning state runner-up Sophia Voudouris is the highest-ranked member of the team, sitting second in the 135-pound class.

Teammate Kyrra Shipman-Lutz is third in the 170-pound class. Amy Robinson is fourth in the 144-pound class and Nyla Charriez is the fifth-ranked 125-pound wrestler.

White Knoll and Gilbert also earned a spot in the girls rankings, sitting 10th and 14th.

Gilbert’s Rory Travis is the highest-ranked individual girl in Lexington County. She is the only girl ranked No. 1 overall in her weight class, sitting atop the 170-pound standings.

While Travis is the only girl ranked No. 1 in her class, two boys earned that honor.

Dutch Fork’s Jackson Stocker is a two-time runner-up at states, finishing second in 106 in 2023 and second in 113 in 2024. He’s jumped a few weight classes since then and is now the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the 132-pound class in 2026.

American Leadership’s Dayton Daniel holds the No. 1 spot in the 2A/A 138-pound class. He finished third in the 126-pound tournament last season.

While Daniel and Stocker both remained No. 1 since the December rankings, there are plenty of other athletes who have moved positions.

Most of the movement around the county was negative, with athletes and teams being jumped by others. There were some positive changes, though.

White Knoll’s girls were the only team to rise on the list, moving up one spot from No. 11 to 10 in the girls poll.

Hayden Hall, Abigail Phillips, Zey McKie and Maggie Capps were all previously unranked on the girls list but made the cut this time.

De'Mirion Smith, Nathaniel Nabors, Gavin Boozer and Jace Randolph were added to the 5A boys list.

This was the last round of athlete rankings until the state qualifiers are determined. Another round of team rankings will drop Jan. 29.

With just about a month of competition left, the postseason planning will begin for teams and athletes. Girls individual qualifiers are this week at Boiling Springs and South Florence. Duel meets begin after that and run until early February.

The individual state tournament for all classifications will be held Feb. 20-21 at the Florence Center.
