Lexington man arrested in Horry County for 2024 murder charge

Posted

Donovan Ryan Holman, 34, has been charged with murder and attempted murder after arrest warrants say he stabbed a man to death last year.

Jay Koon, Lexington County Sheriff, stated the department had been looking for Holman since he was involved in a situation on Oak Ridge Lane last July. “We arrested Edward Leroy Smith on the same charges for his involvement in August,” he said.

Holman and Smith were charged with murder after Caldwell Melton Motley Jr. was stabbed to death. These charges stem from the stabbing of another man who was found injured in a garage beside the home that burned on July 20.

“Over the course of their investigation, detectives determined Holman stabbed Mr. Motley to death,” Koon said. “Detectives also determined Holman seriously wounded another man at the scene by striking him with an edged object. Victim and witness interviews, evidence and electronic data indicate Holman was at the Oak Ridge Lane scene shortly before a 911 call was made in reference to smoke coming from the house.”

Horry County police officers arrested Holaman on Wednesday, May 7, after he was reported as an unwanted person at a Myrtle Beach home. Holman is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway and will be transferred to the Lexington County Detention Center at a later date.
