Michael Leon Rather, 62, of Lexington, has been identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as the person who died in a head-on collision on Saturday, Dec. 20.
The two-vehicle accident occurred on Muddy Springs Road, not far from Longs Pond Road and Interstate 20 in the Town of Lexington area.
According to the coroner, the accident happened at about 12:55 p.m.
Rather was traveling eastbound on Muddy Springs Road when he was hit head-on by another vehicle traveling westbound on the same road.
“Mr. Rather, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Fisher said in a release. “The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with injuries.”
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
