Lexington pedestrian dead after being struck by a vehicle on Platt Springs Road

Russell Keith Coufal, 73, of Lexington, has been identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as the pedestrian who died after a vehicle collision in Lexington County on Jan. 13. 

Coufal was crossing Platt Springs Road at about 6:45 a.m. when he was hit by a car going westbound. This occurred at the 5400 block of Platt Springs Road. 

"Mr. Coufal was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision," according to a press release from the coroner's office. "The driver and passenger remained on scene and were not injured." 

The Lexington County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
