Lexington Police Department begins school zone enforcement campaign

Posted

Chief Terreance Green of the Lexington Police Department announced a new weekday enforcement campaign with Lexington County School District One schools within the town of Lexington limits.

According to a news release, officers will be in school zones each morning, and afternoon officers will be present in school zones each morning and afternoon, focusing on violations such as speeding, failure to yield at crosswalks, ignoring stop signs and running red lights — all common factors in collisions within town limits.

In efforts to remind drivers when they are entering an active school zone, all Lexington County School District One zones are marked with signage and flashing yellow caution lights during morning drop off and afternoon pickup.

This weekday school zone enforcement began on Aug. 18 and will run through Aug. 29.

The two-week enforcement campaign will include the following school zones:

  • Lexington Elementary School
  • Meadow Glen Elementary School
  • New Providence Elementary School
  • Lakeside Middle School
  • Meadow Glen Middle School
  • River Bluff High School
  • North Lake Community Learning Center

The Town of Lexington Police Department encourages the community to follow its Facebook and X pages for more updates on the school zone enforcement campaign.
