Angie Slatton has been named the new principal of Seven Oaks Elementary Global Magnet.
Slatton has served as interim principal since August. Prior to that, she was the director of special services for District Five, a role she held since 2014.
Slatton earned her bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in secondary social studies from Winthrop University. Slatton later received her doctorate in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.
With 30 years of experience, Slatton has worked as the grant director at the S.C. Department of Education and as a special education teacher, bringing a diverse background to her new position.
In a press release, Slatton expressed her gratitude for this opportunity. “It is a privilege to serve such a vibrant and dynamic school community. Throughout my career in education, I have been drawn to serving students of diverse cultures and needs, fostering inclusive and innovative learning environments, and empowering students to reach their fullest potential."
“I am excited to continue that passion and dedication at Seven Oaks by working collaboratively with teachers, staff, parents, and students to build on the school’s strengths and traditions. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the District and Board for entrusting me with this leadership role, and I am committed to earning the trust and partnership of our wonderful school community."
Superintendent Akil E. Ross praised Slatton’s leadership qualities.
“She is a respected and proven leader,” he said. “Dr. Slatton’s vision for Seven Oaks will inspire others to support students in all aspects of education.
