Beginning Feb. 10, families can file applications for Lexington-Richland School District Five’s 4K and 5K programs.
Priority will be given to students with academic and economic needs based on an academic screener and income verification.
To be eligible for the 4K program, students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents or guardians must bring the student’s legal birth certificate, one proof of residency and verification of income.
Parents or guardians can apply by going to their zoned elementary schools during normal school hours, except on school holidays. Mailed applications will not be accepted.
Parents or guardians will be notified of their child’s status in early July. Those who are accepted but do not receive a seat will be placed on a waiting list, the press release said.
Lexington-Richland Five also offers a tuition-based 4K program and a Montessori magnet program. The 4K program, Exposing Children to Early Learning (EXCEL), is housed at Irmo Elementary School. The Montessori magnet program is at H.E. Corley Elementary School.
To be eligible for the 5K program, students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, and required documents must be submitted, including a legal birth certificate, a current South Carolina certificate of immunization or a medical or religious exemption certificate, a property tax bill or rental lease agreement, and two utility bills showing the current home address.
Students in the 4K program and in PowerSchool do not need to complete the new student process, as they will automatically roll into the 5K program.
