Lexington woman charged in West Columbia shooting

Posted

McKenzie Leigh Brady, 21, has been charged with murder in connection with a Sept. 2 West Columbia shooting.

A press release says Brady is accused of shooting 57-year-old Joel Todd McCullough at his residence.

“Deputies went to the scene, which is McCullough’s home, in the 2700 block of Leaphart Road after a 911 call about a gunshot wound,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “A witness told deputies he heard a ‘loud gunshot’ after an argument.”

“Brady told deputies she and McCullough knew each other for some time,” Koon said. “This was an isolated incident and detectives are still looking into what led up to the shooting.”

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies found the gun inside the residence.

Deputies arrested Brady and booked her into the Lexington County Detention Center. She is currently being held at the jail after a judge denied her bond.
