Over 40 local businesses decorated downtown Lexington with scarecrows.

The Town of Lexington and the Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center's Annual Scarecrow Stroll on Main is in its fourth year.

Taking place from Oct. 13 to Oct. 30, "This free, family-friendly event invites residents and visitors alike to stroll along Main Street, admire the artistic displays, and vote for their favorites," according to the chamber's website.

Participating businesses compete with their scarecrows in categories such as Best Overall Scarecrow, People’s Choice Award, Business Representation, Spirit of the Season, Humorous and Youth/Children.

"Simply visit the Town of Lexington’s Facebook page to like your favorite scarecrow photo," according to the chamber's website. "Capture the creativity and fun of the Scarecrow Stroll and share your photos with us on social media using #LexSCScarecrow. Your posts might be featured on our official channels!"

Winners will be announced at the Chamber’s Business Over Breakfast meeting on Nov. 4.

The chamber's President and CEO Angelle LaBorde told the Chronicle the scarecrow initiative promotes a fun community atmosphere, giving local businesses a creative opportunity to bring people together.
