New craft shop opens in Irmo

A new arts and crafts store, Searsport Rug Hooking, has officially opened its doors in Irmo. 

The shop is located inside the Big Red Barn, formerly Bechman’s Barn, at 1751 Kennerly Rd., near the traffic circle. 

Open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this family-owned business brings over 25 years of experience in the craft industry. The store offers a variety of supplies, including rug hooking, wool appliqué and fabric. The business also hosts events and classes.

Owners Julie and Neil Madison, along with their family, were welcomed by the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Irmo. According to Searsport’s website, the business moved here from Florida.
