According to Lexington County Planning Commission activity documents, plans were submitted in June for a project listed as "West Lexington Walmart - Augusta Highway." The proposed Walmart grocery store would be located at 2474 Augusta Highway in Lexington.
According to staff with the Lexington County Planning Commission, no permits have been issued for the proposed West Lexington Walmart. Only plans have been submitted and are currently under review.
According to a Planning Commission staff member, plans for zoning, landscaping and stormwater were received on June 3. Stormwater fees, which are required before that particular review, were received on June 12.
There is no current timeline for approval or construction, according to the Planning Commission.
The submitted civil plans identify the project as a Walmart Supercenter, according to members of the Planning Commission. If built, the Augusta Highway location would become the fourth Walmart Supercenter in Lexington County. It would also be about a 13-minute drive from the Walmart Supercenter on Sunset Boulevard.
The proposed store would be located directly across from Lexington High School and next to Victory Village, a new shopping center that is expected to include a Target store and Academy Sports + Outdoors. The development is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
Other nearby grocery stores include Lowe's Foods on Augusta Highway and Publix on U.S. Highway 378.
