Nursery Road Elementary School-Arts Magnet in Irmo has received a $12,600 Distinguished Arts Program grant for the project Excellence in Arts at Nursery Road Elementary Integration from the South Carolina Department of Education.
DAP grants provide funds for one-year projects, and funds from this grant award must be expended in accordance with activities to support standards-based arts instruction.
"We are deeply grateful for this investment in our Champions,” said Nursery Road Elementary School Principal Karey Fisher. “The arts ignite possibility, give children a voice and remind us that every child has something extraordinary to share with the world.”
The DAP grant will be used to fund “Lights, Learning, Equity: Building a Fully Equipped Theater for Student Growth and Expression.”
Nursery Road Elementary - Arts Magnet utilizes an arts-integrated curriculum that extends into all aspects of a student’s learning experience. The arts magnet school is also the only elementary school in Lexington-Richland School District Five to offer media, visual and performing arts with an extended arts rotation as well as arts integration in the general education classroom.
DAP grants assist schools in developing and implementing arts initiatives that support quality arts education programs that significantly improve student achievement in the arts. DAP grants provide funds for one-year projects. Successful DAP applications must indicate in the strategic arts plan that the applicant will include all arts forms — dance, music, theater and visual arts — over a three-year period of their strategic arts plan.
