Williams-Brice Stadium’s makeover is officially underway.
The University of South Carolina athletics department announced that phase one of its plans to renovate Williams-Brice Stadium had begun. Demolition has begun and equipment has started arriving at the site. The university says noticeable changes to the exterior will be coming in the ensuing weeks and months.
“This is an exciting moment for Gamecock Nation,” Gamecock Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati said in a press release. “Breaking ground on this project signals the beginning of a new era for Williams-Brice Stadium and reflects our commitment to delivering an enhanced experience for our fans and student-athletes.”
In phase one of the renovation project, the general concourses and student section will be upgraded. Construction on those areas is expected to be completed by the start of the 2026 season.
Key demolition work will be performed on the east ground level, the southwest ramp and the Floyd Building. The demolition work is expected to be done by Jan. 5
“Our team is proud to help bring this vision to life. Over the next several months, fans will start to see the stadium take shape in new ways, and this initial demolition phase is a critical first step,” Contract Construction CEO Greg Hughes said.
It is not yet known when renovation work beyond the general concourse and student section will begin, but the university said it would provide updates as progress is made.
When all the renovations are complete, Williams-Brice is expected to have new premium-level seats, an upgraded student section, upgraded locker rooms, new video boards and concourse improvements, including concessions and restrooms.
The overall capacity is expected to be reduced by about 4,100 seats. The current construction going on will not affect capacity in 2026.
