It was less than three months ago that Herbert Blake started as the City of Cayce's chief of police, and now he has resigned.
In his Dec. 13 resignation letter, all Blake wrote was, "Dear Mr. Crosland; This letter serves as notice of my resignation as police chief for the city of Cayce. My resignation effective today's date. Thank you very much for the opportunity you afforded me."
A release from the city states that his resignation was accepted effective immediately and "The City and Cayce’s elected officials wish him well in his future endeavors."
In a subject line from the city, it says the city "mutually" parted ways with Blake.
There is no one in line to replace Blake at the moment, but Interim City Manager Jim Crosland said in the release, “We have a senior Command Staff and a fully capable police force that will continue to serve our city and to keep our citizens safe. ... We have an immediate plan to resume our search for the right person to lead our Cayce Police Department.”
Blake came from Buncombe County, North Carolina, and according to a press release, served as the police chief of the Hendersonville Police Department for 13 years and as the police chief of the Loris Police Department in Horry County for seven years, but began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Town of Ridgeland, S.C.
The Chronicle will continue to look into why he resigned so soon.
