River Bluff stars sweep Athlete of the Week honors

Posted

It’s playoff time for teams in Lexington County, meaning here on out, every game is do-or-die.

Last week, some teams got their postseason runs started, while others looked to end their regular season on a high note to carry positive momentum into the playoffs.

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners both come from River Bluff and helped their Gators team pick up crucial wins.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Wade Douroux

River Bluff soccer’s Wade Douroux helped his team snap a four-game winless streak right before the playoffs.

The Gators defeated Brookland-Cayce 5-0 to conclude their regular season. Douroux scored three goals during live play and added a fourth off a penalty.

The three goals scored against the Bearcats set a new season-high for Douroux. It was the first time this season he scored multiple times in a game, and he’s now up to eight goals on the year.

River Bluff will look for Douroux to continue his positive contributions as the Gators attempt to progress through the playoffs. The team hosted its first round game on Wednesday, after the Chronicle’s press deadline.

Lily Sadler

River Bluff lacrosse star Lily Sadler lit up the scoreboard to help the Gators advance to the state semifinal round this week.

In the team’s first two playoff games, she scored five goals and added three assists. In the opening round against Dutch Fork, she finished with a goal and two assists.  Game two versus Carolina Forest, she scored five goals and had an assist.

The senior saved her best performance of the year for when her team needed it most. Her five goals against Carolina Forest set a new season-high.

Sadler is now up to 16 goals and 13 assists this year. She extended her scoring streak to six straight games.
