February’s signing period has passed as the next group of Lexington County athletes signed their official letters of intent to continue their sport at the collegiate level.

Fifty-one athletes from 11 different high schools participated in the event. These athletes committed to 30 different colleges, both in and out of South Carolina.

Dutch Fork led all schools with 12 athletes signing. Seven of them were part of the Silver Foxes’ 2025 championship-winning football team. Two are from the baseball team, two run track and one plays basketball.

Gray Collegiate and Lexington are next on the list with seven athletes apiece. Gilbert had six, Chapin had five, Airport had five and Irmo had four.

Of the 30 colleges, 18 are in South Carolina, and 12 are in other states. Erskine College was the most popular destination among the February signees, with six athletes electing to attend there.

Newberry was a close second with five commits. Columbia International University and Winthrop each had three.

Two athletes will travel over 1,000 miles to attend school. Gray Collegiate’s Tyler Waller will attend Carleton College in Minnesota, and Brookland-Cayce’s Barry Dixon will attend McPherson College in Kansas.

Irmo’s Major Taylor missed out on the 1,000-mile mark, choosing to go about 800 miles north to play football at Yale.

RJ Kearse from Gilbert and Devaughn Sutter from Irmo will play football at the University of Charleston in West Virginia.

Other out-of-state colleges local athletes chose to play for include Kennesaw State University in Georgia, Montreat College in North Carolina and Emory & Henry College in Virginia, among others.
