The high school soccer season ends this week, and just like with all the other spring sports, teams from around Lexington County are using these final few games to get in playoff shape.
Four teams have already clinched their region title, and one more is on the verge of doing so this week.
Chapin’s boys went undefeated in conference play this season to take the 5A Region 4 title. The Eagles finished four games ahead of second-place Lexington, who ended the year tied with Dutch Fork. River Bluff, Irmo and White Knoll follow in that order.
The girls standings ended up in a similar order, with Chapin finishing first and Lexington second. River Bluff finished ahead of Dutch Fork for third place and White Knoll finished ahead of Irmo for fifth.
Gray Collegiate’s girls won their region after having a big enough advantage over second-place Gilbert entering this week. The War Eagles dominated all season and have the opportunity to finish conference play undefeated.
Gilbert has not locked up second place and could fall behind South Aiken, depending on how the games this week go.
The Gray boys wrapped up their region after picking up a win against Brookland-Cayce on Tuesday.
Swansea’s boys clinched their region title weeks ago and have been focused on playing tougher competition ahead of the playoffs.
The soccer playoffs begin May 5. The state championships will be played from May 22-24.
With the season nearing an end, some of the area’s best players were recently selected for postseason All-Star events. Many Lexington County athletes earned a spot on the North-South roster and the Clash of Carolinas.
