Some Lexington County schools announce free summer meals for all students

Lexington County School District One is participating in the USDA Summer Meals Program, which will provide Lexington One students with meals at no charge during the summer.

Students can pick up meals on June 11, June 18, June 25 and July 2, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These meals can be picked up at Centerville Elementary School, 4147 Augusta Hwy. in Gilbert; Deerfield Elementary School, 638 Longs Pond Rd. in Lexington; and Pelion Middle School, 325 Main St. in Pelion.

Parents or guardians can sign up through ParentSquare and need to sign up all students in their household to receive meals. Those who wish to pick up meals on June 11 must sign up between June 5-8; those picking up meals on June 18 must sign up between June 12-15; those picking up meals June 25 must sign up between June 19-22; and those picking up meals July 2 must sign up between June 26-29.

Parents or guardians must bring documentation verifying their relationship to the child if the child is not present during the meal pick-up. According to the press release, acceptable forms of documentation include students listed in the ParentSquare App on mobile devices, student identification cards, report cards, birth certificates and legal guardianship papers. 

These documents can be photos on a mobile device.

Lexington-Richland County School District Five will be offering free summer meals beginning June 9 through July 24, Mondays through Thursdays. All children up to the age of 18 can participate. 

The serving sites will be Dutch Fork High School, located at 1400 Old Tamah Rd., and Irmo High School, located at 6671 St Andrews Rd. Dutch Fork High and Irmo High will begin serving breakfast at 7:30 a.m. until 8 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. These meals will be consumed on site. 

Individuals can pre-order meals by 4 p.m. and pick up meals at Spring Hill High School, located at 11629 Broad River Rd., if they cannot make it to the open sites each day. Meals can be picked up from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. 

Children must be present during the time of the meal pick-up, or parents must provide the child’s report card or birth certificate for verification.
