South Congaree police chief on medical leave after crash Aug. 27

Posted

South Congaree Police Chief Steven Jonas was involved in a motor vehicle crash in Columbia on Aug. 27.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol determined that Jonas suffered a transient ischemic attack, essentially a mini stroke, at the time of the crash.

Jonas and the individuals in the other car were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and care.

“Our thoughts right now are with Chief Jonas and with the family in the other vehicle that was involved,” Town Administrator Crystal Bouknight said in the media release.

Jonas is on medical leave, and Lt. James Marchant is serving as acting head of the South Congaree Police Department for the time being.
